Who We Are

Calvary Lutheran Church began as an organized Missouri Synod Lutheran congregation in 1939. Worship was held in different locations in Sunnyside until the Parish Hall was built and completed in 1948. This served as the original sanctuary. As the congregation grew in size, plans were made to build a new church, which was dedicated in February of 1958. A Sunday school addition and other improvements were completed in 1965.

Calvary has been served by 13 pastors over the years. In 2006,  a dual parish was established with Messiah Lutheran Church in Prosser, WA. Pastor Don Petersen, our current pastor, serves both congregations. Along with Pastor Don, faithful congregation members join together to carry on the work of God- to spread the gospel message and teach and share the love of Christ in the community by serving our neighbors.
